This oscillator module is used to generate a variety of frequencies in a very small form factor. Many electronic systems require oscillators to function properly, radar systems in particular require very high quality oscillators which are usually expensive and take up a large amount of space because more than one frequency is often required. This module was something that I had a major role in designing at Visor Corporation and the result exceeded our original estimates for size and allowed for a significant reduction in overall system size and complexity. Many of the challenges involved in the design of this module were a result of trying to keep generate several different frequencies while maintaining a high level of isolation. Other design challenges included heat management, mechanical reliability, ease of assembly and working on a short timeline within a small budget.
The design went through initial testing on larger pcbs that allowed for proof of concept and simplified testing and tuning of the circuit. The boards were iterated and once components were finalized I proceeded with miniaturizing the pcbs and designing an enclosure to house them. The final boards can be customized to produce different frequencies and each port can be tuned to a different power level depending on the specific application and what system the module is to be used in.
